To what extent is it good for christians to have varying viewpoints, is there a point at which this becomes a problem? Are there absolutes within christianity?

Welcome to the wonderful world of applepie. I'm in Chester studying Christian youth work and applied theology. From Gorleston(not yarmouth!) which happily is not Southern or Northern, so no arguments there! Currently I spend my time working on assignments, working on placement, forgetting the laundry, forgetting to eat, being 'pastored' by an unconventional anglican, and struggling with a small obsession with modelling clay.

It's inevitable to a point - and we don't want to produce a bunch of robots. But you're right, the question 'how far should we disagree?' is a difficult one. I think we needn't be too strict on it, because when we disagree too much there's usually much to learn from it (at least, ideally - I suppose it doesn't usually work out that way).
